The topic of peer pressure has become increasingly important in today’s society, with many people holding different opinions. Some argue that peer pressure is beneficial for young people, while others believe that it has an adverse impact on young people. In this essay, I will discuss both perspectives and provide my own opinion on the matter.
Firstly, those who support the idea that there is an advantage for youngsters often argue that the peer pressure facilitates(motivates) adolescents to study hard . For instance, when I was a senior high school student, our teacher printed the score ranking list in every midterm and final exams. This shows that we compared the ranking to our classmates, encouraging us to spend more time on our courseworks. In the long-term, we considered the growth of scores as our incentive in progress.
On the other hand, others believe that there is a disadvantage for teenagers since peer pressure is harmful to their mental health. For example, according to the recent news, it is reported that there was a 18-year-old girl, who was 18 years old, suicided. Due to comparing her classmates in every test. Moreover, it was the fact that her mental status was always unstable, feeling frustrated when she saw her ranking had fallen. This suggests that teenagers who always seek peer pressure as the most crucial matter in their life, might affect their mentality .
In conclusion, while there are valid arguments on both sides of the debate surrounding whether peer pressure is a positive or negative issue or not,I believe that both sides of perspectives are important. Peer pressure gives motivation for students. There is a potential challenge, such as affecting their mental health problem.
