6/23-IELTS Writing Task 2-Elsa

While some argue that it is more crucial that the family play a role in people’s individual life, others believe that friends are more important. In my opinion, I disagree that family is more significant than friends in today’s relationships.

First of all, friends usually consist of people of the same or similar age. They might have more similar understanding and ideals than family, which makes it easier to share their thoughts and more comfortable to express their real emotions. For example, during my study time, when I faced difficulties in solving the problem of friendships, friends were the people who could always provide useful advice and effective approaches to coping with them. Compared to my family, it would be more difficult to understand my worries in friendship as they could not relate to my situation in school life.

Secondly, as students, they spend plenty of time with their friends in school rather than with their family. This situation naturally makes people unintentionally generate special emotional connections to each other due to long-term company. For instance, during my freshman year, it was tough to adapt to a new environment and manage my stress from academics. However, after making friends from the class, we complained about our worries on academics together, researched the resolutions together and then supported each other to go through challenges. Their warm company comforted me and reduced my anxiety and loneliness.

In conclusion, from my point of view, although family play an important role in our lives as well, without friends by our side, it would be more difficult to cope with the daily challenges we face. Friends share their thoughts and give support to help us overcome difficulties.
