In recent years, some argue that there are positive effects on adolescents with peer pressure, while others believe that it has more negative results on them. This essay will discuss these points of view and give my opinion below.
On the one hand, peer pressure between(among) adolescents can evoke their ambition and increase the competitiveness between(among) them. For instance, some parents send their children into the elite class to enhance their competitiveness with their children’s classmates. Seeing their classmates’ excellent performance in academic subjects, they might have the motivation to do the same even better than others(strive for the best). (personal experience)
On the other hand, some young people can find it difficult to cope with the intense pressure in their learning environment, which might lead to some illnesses on their health such as mental and physical health(disorder). For example, they might begin to lose confidence in their abilities, which would result in increasing anxiety (or) even depression. Therefore, their performance in academic could decline.(personal experience)
In my opinion, although peer pressure can sometimes motivate adolescents to perform well, I believe that negative effects deserve more attention. During this age, their mental health is vulnerable as they(teenagers) are still developing. Therefore, it’s important to educate them to find the balance between competing with peer and caring about their own physical health.
In conclusion, while peer pressure can bring positive and negative influences on young people, I consider that its negative impacts outweigh its positive results. Therefore, schools and parents should focus on helping adolescents build resilience and self-confidence so they can adjust their mental situation well.
