2/17-IELTS Writing Task 2-Peggy

Undeniably(Undoubtedly), the effects of peer pressure have been discussed for a long time. While some argue that it has a positive impact on young people, others consider that it is harmful to them. This essay will elaborate on both perspectives and provide a balanced view of this complex issue.

There are several reasons that may explain why young people are negatively affected by their peers. Firstly, some teenagers engage in dangerous activities to fit in with their peers. For example, a teenager might start smoking, drinking, or drug use because their friends all do it, so he or she is afraid of being excluded from the group.(their peers, fearing being excluded from the group) Secondly, achieving or remaining at a level of (keeping or meeting) standard with peers is an inevitable pressure for teenagers. According to a survey conducted by the National Taiwan University, over 60% of the pressure of the young generation stems from their classmates and friends, and it reveals they feel overwhelmed because they keep trying to stand in the same spot as their peers, such as academics, performance, and social status aspects.

Conversely, on the positive side, peer pressure usually plays a vital role for young people. When surrounded by hardworking or ambitious peers, young people(individual) may feel motivated to push themselves seriously. In other words, it encourages people to achieve challenging goals, and it also benefits their personal growth. From my perspective(experience), I saw my best friend was excelling in school, and that inspired(inspiring) me to study harder and improve my performance. Additionally, peer groups can encourage various good habits and lifestyles, such as exercising regularly, eating healthily, and fostering knowledge. For instance, joining a sports team due to peer influence at first may develop discipline, teamwork, and communication skills. (補述說明)

In conclusion, based on the aforementioned, I believe that peer pressure helps people grow with well-rounded aspects instead of merely refusing those stresses because it leads to incorrect behaviors and overloads the mind. Maybe people cannot totally avoid any pressure from their peers, but it is a great opportunity to learn how to tackle it and transform it into motivation. A balanced way of addressing peer pressure will ensure a more stable emotion and a well-developed independent life in the long term.
