The variations in the numbers of attendees for five activities over two decades are illustrated in the line chart. Overall, the changes could be categorized into three groups, which respectively depict fluctuation, growth and decline.
To begin with, numbers for film clubs and martial arts fluctuated around their initial figures over the years, with the former consistently maintained its dominant status while the latter ceded its second place to the rapid rise of table tennis.
Secondly, table tennis and musical performances both gained popularity during the period, but unique trajectories were followed in each’s elevation. Table tennis surged after 2010, overtaking martial art in ranking. In contrast, participants for musical performances did not emerge until 2005, after which they grew steadily, ultimately converging at approximately 18 participants.
Last but “least”, amateur dramatics appeared to suffer from the rise of two aforementioned activities. It saw a modest peak in the first half-decade, but then experienced a relentless decline from nearly 30 attendees to single digits.

The line graph illustrates the number of participants engaging in five different activities at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia, between 2000 and 2020.
Overall, the film club consistently remained the most popular activity throughout the period, while participation in amateur dramatics steadily declined. Notably, table tennis experienced significant growth. In 2000, the film club attracted the highest number of participants at approximately 65, and this figure remained relatively stable, slightly rising to around 67 by 2020. In contrast, amateur dramatics started at 35 participants but saw a continuous drop, reaching zero by the end of the period.
Table tennis saw a remarkable increase from 15 participants in 2000 to roughly 52 in 2020, surpassing martial arts in 2015. Martial arts fluctuated between 30 and 40 participants, peaking around 38 in 2010 before a slight decline to approximately 33 in 2020. Meanwhile, musical performances showed moderate growth from zero in 2000 to around 17 participants by 2020, overtaking amateur dramatics after 2010.
In summary, while the film club remained dominant, table tennis gained substantial popularity, and amateur dramatics lost participants completely.
