The table illustrates the proportion of Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter and Linkedin used by three age groups in 2022.

 

Overall, TikTok had the largest percentage of users whose age between18-24 years, and people in 25-34 years old preferred using Instagram.

 

The youngest group had nearly 100% of people used TikTok in 2022 and followed by Instagram, within 85%. The next biggest platform was Facebook with over a half of proportion. Twitter had lower percentage in this age group, within 40%, was twice as much as the lowest one, namely Linkedin.

 

 

People in middle age of group preferred using Instagram, nearly three quarters of the total. Facebook and TikTok followed by Instagram, within 65% and 60% respectively. The last two platforms, Twitter and Linkedin, had the same percentage in 35%. For the older age group in this table, Facebook was the most popular social media, just over a half of the total, followed by Instagram and Linkedin with 50% and 45% respectively. TikTok had lower users in this age group with just over a third, and Twitter had the lowest percentage with exactly one quarter.

Facebook usage in this group was lower, at 60%, while Twitter and LinkedIn were the least popular, at 40% and 20%, respectively.

    For those aged 25–34, Instagram remained popular, with 70% usage, while TikTok saw a drop to 60%. Facebook use was slightly higher at 65%, while Twitter and LinkedIn were used by 35% of this group. Among the 35–44 age group, LinkedIn usage increased to 45%, making it the most popular platform for this demographic. Facebook followed closely at 55%, while Instagram and TikTok saw significant drops, with 50% and 35% usage, respectively. Twitter remained the least used platform at only 25%.

    In summary, social media preferences varied significantly across age groups, with younger users favoring TikTok and Instagram, while older users leaned towards LinkedIn and Facebook.
