In recent years, society has strongly debated whether fast fashion is a great innovation for the public or a source of serious environment harm(a detriment to our environment). In my opinion, I believe that fast fashion not only pollutes our ecosystem but also undermines the fashion industry and social ethics. (In this essay, I would discuss both side of viewpoints and elaborate the reasons.)
Supporters of fast fashion argue that it provides affordable and accessible fashion to general public. For instance, when luxury brands like(such as) Prada or Chanel release their latest collections with exorbitantly prices, consumers can find similar styles at stores like(such as) Zara, H&M or SHEIN. In this way, fashion becomes more inclusive, (and with little amount of money, customers can dress fashionably.) For examples, those ‘quite luxury style’ trousers are actually from Primark instead of haute couture, and it only costs 15 pounds, but people still can take stunning pictures and post on social media. However, this affordability often leads to overconsumption and excessive waste, which harms the environment.
On the other hand, (in the aspects of plagiarism and overconsumption, fast fashion is harmful.) For instance, many designers claim that fast fashion brands (earn) profit from copying their original designs. These companies replicate trends rapidly and dominate the market, while the original creators receive no recognition or compensation. Although cheaper clothing benefits consumers, profiting(making revenue) from plagiarism is unprofessional and unethical, and it would hinder those brilliant designers. (Secondly, overconsumption)
From my perspective ,the disadvantages of fast fashion outweighs the benefits. These companies often exploit natural resources and human labor while ignoring their environment and social responsibilities. The low price tags often reflect hidden costs such as water pollution and unfair working conditions.
In conclusion, while fast fashion may increase accessibility , it raises serious ethical and environmental concerns that can’t be overlooked
