2/9 -IELTS Writing Discussion- peer pressure

Some people believe that peer pressure has positive effects on young people, while others argue that it has more negative consequences. I personally think peer pressure has more positive effects on young people. This essay will discuss both views and use good reasons to support my own view.

Peer pressure means the strong influence or pressure of a group that expects you to behave as everyone does. Students at school are able to get a positive effect from peers. From my own experience, it is easy to get a positive effect from a well behaved, straight A students. Because they have what we want, they have good grade and bright future. Moreover, the study method will get other studnet to follow, because they believe using the same strategy can get full marks on the test. That is a initiative influence from a peer pressure, there is passive effect from peer pressure too. For an example, when everyone in the classroom are studying and working hard. I believe you will feel guilty if you are the only who are doing nothing in the classroom. Therefore, the student will start to work the same as everyone else. This is a positive side of peer pressure.

On the other hand, peer pressure has a negative side too. Students with bad habit like smoking, partying are easily to effect others. The reason is they are finding partner, an accompany from others. And what they have is a new, cool and fun things to others. People with no willpower are easily to step in this deep hole. They want to try these and be a different people from the peers. Peer pressure influence is not just effect on people behavior or life style. It will also harm their own physical health. Bring out my experience, I had a friend who love playing volleyball. However, when he went to summer camp get intouch with some seniors. They persuade him to try on cigarettes, and he continue this toxic habit. Consuquetly, he cannot does a well respiration system in his body while the volleyball game. This realistic example is a well instance to proof that peer pressure has a negative effect too.

I personally think peer pressure still have a positive effect more than negative. It only depends on where the environment the person in. If this person in a good environment then I hope he/she can get effect to, to become a well behave person. On the other side, if this person in a bad environment but with self control. Then I hope he/she will not get effect too.
